School Counseling Services
My primary task is to help all GRE students become better learners by providing a comprehensive counseling program that meets their academic, personal/social, and career development needs.
This is accomplished by providing individual counseling, small group counseling, classroom guidance curriculum, responsive services, and system support.
To be more specific, we can help students with:
Academic support (identifying barriers to success and creating interventions)
Anger management
Anxiety/stress
Behavior problems at school
Bullying
Career awareness, exploration and planning
Communication, problem-solving and conflict resolution
Divorce/family separation
Goal setting and decision-making
Grief and loss
New student orientation
Organization and study skills
Peer relationships and effective social skills
GRE School Wide Counseling
This year I am so excited to bring the excitement of Mindfulness to Gold Rush. I will be using a school wide curriculum called MindUp which is backed by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning or CASEL standards. I will be in every classroom once a month and support or Kindergarteners weekly with our Mindful Monsters Alphabet!
GRE Small Group Counseling
Small group counseling will be offered as determined by need. Typically, I begin groups in January once I get to know the kids and develop relationships with them and their needs. I will pull students during the school day for a six - eight weeks period (depending on need). Students join a group with a similar grade level and meet once a week for about 25 minutes during the school day. Students are given the opportunity to discuss the emotions that may occur, develop coping strategies and self-awareness, improve confidence, and hear from peers that they are not alone. During our time together, we often use games, art, music, modeling, role play, and books along with discussion to practice these skills.
Some Small group that may be include:
FISH Group (Families in Separate Homes): for students whose parents have or are currently experiencing divorce or separation
Friendship Group: social skills training
Girls Rock: building self-esteem and resiliency in girls
Building Champions: encouraging the leader within boys
Inside Out: helping students understand their anger and strong emotions
Worry Warriors: learning coping skills for stress/anxiety
